About Us
I love the earth.
It is the most exquisite place. I have lived in out of the way
places for 37 years and been a gardener for 40. That's not including years of mowing the lawn for my father and digging the grass out of the Dicondra lawn he wanted.
Raised in Southern California we had a house in the mountians to ski and enjoy the summer there. As a child I couldn't understand why we didn't live in the mountians all the time. I felt most at home there with the trees and the wild life.
In the early 70's I moved "back to the land" and never left. I raised my children there, taught school, grew food, raised livestock, and helped bulid houses, fences and barns. I've raised countless varieties of vegetables, as many chickens as I could, plus pigs, goats, cows, llamas and a couple of sheep.
I still marvel at a seed I planted breaking through the soils surface. It then grows into a huge bush or a carrot, a lot of tomatoes or a beautiful flower. I still am as excited as a child to see a baby chick coming out of its egg to meet the world and its mother, fiesty mad that I should be so close!
I lived in the wilds of Idaho, 50 miles from a grocery store. I have hands-on or foot-in-the-cowpie knowledge. Knowledge that I thought people might want to read and know about. Several of my neighbors have told me, "You should write a book".
So..... I hope you enjoy the web site, my month to month thoughts and labors, the kids page (for adults too) with information, fun projects and a coloring page, plant bios of trees, vegetables or flowers and handy ideas for around the house and barn. Also included is a page for buying my booklets about specific subjects. Some applicable to your backyard and some to larger acreages. Enjoy, and have fun.
